Tips to make the best of your Old Town Trolley Tours St. Augustine bus tour

  • Take the trolley on your first day to get oriented with the city layout and figure out which attractions deserve more of your time later.
  • You don't need to start at the main station since you can hop on at any of the 22 stops, so check if your hotel or Airbnb is near a trolley route.
  • Ask your hotel front desk about trolley shuttle pickups, as your ticket includes complimentary hotel shuttle service.
  • Ride the full 90-minute loop without hopping off first to hear all the historical commentary, then decide which stops you want to revisit and explore deeply.
  • Most attractions and shops don't open until 10am, so there's no real advantage to catching the first 9am trolley unless you just want the narrated tour.
  • Grab a front or side seat on the trolley for the best views and photo opportunities of the Spanish colonial architecture.
  • Your trolley ticket includes free admission to St. Augustine History Museum and complimentary beach shuttle service to the lighthouse area. Make sure you use these perks for a complete St. Augustine experience!
  • Use the trolley's self-guided walking tour app when you hop off at Plaza de la Constitucion or Castillo de San Marcos to get detailed audio commentary as you explore on foot.
  • The last trolley with Hop-on Hop-off privileges leaves at 4:30pm, so plan your afternoon stops accordingly to avoid being stuck without a ride back.
  • Download the trolley route map before you go so you can strategically plan which stops to hit based on your interests rather than just winging it.
  • Bring sunscreen, a hat, and a water bottle because the Florida sun gets intense quickly, especially on the open-air trolley with minimal shade.

All of the driver were well very knowledgable of the history of St Augustine. The trollys were clean. There was about a 15 - 20 minute gap between trollys so the wait at a stop for a trolly was minimal.
