Perfect way of seeing as much as possible if you stay one day in Athens. One of the line was without rooftop at the upper level at the middle of a hot day. Very challenging. You can move to the lower AC part but there is no such a view. Not all the players for audio guide are working. Sometimes the audio guide is not very sinnchronised don't is not clear what/where to look.

The schedules of the Costa line are wrong. At 3:47 p.m. it stops at Glifada City Center, at 4:03 p.m. at Glifada, and then at 4:40 p.m. Glifada City Center. Not having real-time visibility on the runs, especially those out of town, is a problem.

The bus makes its last trip from Acropolis very early at 6.15p.m. We waited for the blue bus for over an hour because I had understood that it ran until 8pm. We had to walk to the train station to buy a ticket to return

Frequency was a useful, and key feature. So much to see, do (& eat & drink). So wasn't losing lots of time waiting for a bus to turn up. (Certainly a contrast with booking "day trips" organised by some companies). We were staying in Athens - & it was really nice to be able to jump off, visit somewhere & do something, then jump on without much waiting. And let's be honest, there is so much to do, to see, to enjoy.

Acropolis & Parthenon

  • Tip: The Acropolis complex attracts tourists from all around the globe and gets crowded during peak hours. It's recommended that you visit early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid large crowds and enjoy a more tranquil visit.
  • The Acropolis has limited accessibility for visitors with mobility challenges. While there is an elevator near the South Slope entrance, its operation is managed entirely by the venue and may not always be available. Contact the site a day before your visit at +30 210 3214172 or +30 210 9238470 to confirm availability.
  • Your ticket allows you to avoid the 'ticket' line and not security lines.
  • These tickets can't be cancelled or rescheduled.

We were lucky to have 8 am tickets, since it was a 95 degree day! The site was incredible. Our tour guide pointed out many intricacies about the buildings, why they were designed the way they were, and the history of the site. It was one of the most spectacular places we've visited.

We purchased tickets in advance online and arrived shortly before our scheduled entry time. We waited for a short time to be allowed to enter (maybe 10 minutes). It was somewhat crowded at 5 pm, but the crowds were easy to navigate with and through. It did not affect our enjoyment. The site is amazing to see in person! You can see te entire city. Of Athens and surrounding areas out to the sea. We visited in mid June and it gets SUPER hot so prehydrate and everyone take water. The package is worth it, especially because it includes the entrance to the Acropolis and watching the sunset at the temple of Poseidon is beautiful. What I think is confusing is the beginning of the tour. We waited at the appointed place 15 minutes before our time and no one showed up. Then we went to exchange tickets and entered the Acropolis but we missed the first part of the tour.

If you are spending just one day in Athens, consider a combination of the Orange and Yellow Lines.

  • Your tour will begin at Syntagma Square, Old Parliament, where you can catch the bus towards the Acropolis Parthenon.
  • Explore the Parthenon and learn about its mythological significance and history. This monument has withstood the test of time, from its construction to becoming a church and a mosque after it was repeatedly seized by the reigning victors.
  • You can then switch to the Blue Line and enjoy the landmarks along the way, including the planetarium and the Piraeus cruise, which gives you an up-close and personal view of the Temple of Poseidon. The duration of the Blue Line route is about an hour and 15 minutes.
  • After a brief lunch break, hop back on one of the Sights of Athens Yellow Line buses to continue your city tour which includes the Karaiskaki Square, the National Archaeological Museum, the Temple of Zeus, and the Benaki Museum.
  • You will be dropped off at the starting point —Syntagma Square, Old Parliament — after approximately two hours.

If you have two days to explore Athens, make sure to take all four routes of the Sights of Athens hop-on hop-off tour to make the most out of your trip. Here is a possible itinerary that incorporates all four routes:

Day 1 - Orange and Blue Lines: Your tour will begin at Syntagma Square, Old Parliament, as you catch the bus towards the Acropolis Parthenon. After your stroll through the Acropolis, shift to the Blue Line for the Piraeus Cruise, which includes a visit to the planetarium, a close view of the Temple of Poseidon, and a few extra stops. You can get back to the Orange Line at the Acropolis to continue your tour of the city and its attractions. The Old Town of Plaka, which lies close to the Acropolis, is home to several local-run taverns that offer Greek delicacies such as Keftedes (Greek-style meatballs) and Tzatziki (a cucumber-garlic dip).

Day 2 - Yellow and Green Lines: Your second day in Athens is meant to be a beachside getaway! You can take the bus from the Acropolis Parthenon to Glyfada. Experience the serene beauty of the Glyfada and Kosmas beach sides, before you get down. You can either continue on the Yellow Line or take a break here and shift to the Green Line, which is a brief, 20-minute detour that takes you toward some of the less-known beaches in Athens, including Astir Beach and Vouliagmeni Lake. Following the detour, you can get back on the Yellow Line and finish your trip through the city of Athens, before you are dropped off at the starting point.

Sights of Athens hop-on hop-off tour tips

  • Make sure to plan your day and familiarise yourself with the bus routes. It’s a good idea to make a special note of all the points where you can change over to different routes.
  • Since the tour is a day trip and you are expected to be on your feet, wear comfortable clothes and footwear, especially if you plan on strolling through the city.
  • The tickets are usually valid for calendar days, so make sure to activate your passes in advance. You cannot use your one-day passes for two days!
  • If you are stopping by for food, do your research! Don’t be lured by waiters forcing you to sit down in touristy areas. Instead, look for some recommended locations. Athenians eat late, between 9-11pm, so prepare for a dinner close to midnight.
  • Be mindful of your clothes when visiting churches or monasteries. Wear respectful clothing and avoid high heels as most of these locations have rather slippery marbles or cobblestones.
