It was a comprehensive tour along the north route on the island of Malta. I wasn't sure whether to do it or not, but it was 100% worth it. Get ready for a long trip (over 3 hours and à half, without hopping off...). I would recommend to do the first 2-3 days upon arrival to have a good overview.

Took the hop-on hop-off bus with my wife last March. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical but turned out to be a SUPER easy way to get around Malta. We spent most of the day jumping off at random stops (Mdina was my fave, btw). The drivers were friendly and let us know when we were about to miss our stop (oops). Commentary was a bit cheesy but learned a few things. Only downside—some of the headphones didn’t work, but we just swapped seats. Weather was perfect for sitting up top! Would totally do it again.

Did this with my partner. The buses were mostly on time, except in Valletta where we waited like 25 mins. Otherwise, really handy way to get from A to B. The commentary made us laugh—lots of random facts about knights and pirates. Not all stops are marked well, so keep your map handy.

That were 2 different buslines that come only every hour. Not as in big cities like Rome and Athens, where you can hop on and hop off regularly They do not come nearby important acheologic sites like hypogeum or Taxien. Instead, they stop at big hotels that have only importance as you stay there.

The Polish ersion of the audio guide is unfortunately unprofessional. Both the text and the narrator who reads the text, who is confused every now and then. In addition, the text is often read at the wrong time - it tells about something we can't see at the time... Unfortunately, the buses were not always on schedule due to traffic jams. I missed information about the real time of arrival of the bus at the stops - maybe it would be possible to do this in the app? It would make planning a tour easier for tourists.

First time in Malta, did the hop-on bus with my girlfriend. BEST way to see so many places in one day. We loved Mdina and stopped for pastries there (get the pastizzi!). Buses are clean. Commentary is a bit basic but helpful. Only wish the maps showed more food stops.

The buses are easy to find and stop very close to the sites to be visited. There are lovely views of the countryside and villages. The driver was also good at advising travellers on whether or not they had time to do the tour, so as to be back in time for the ferry. On both itineraries, having taken the 1st bus of the day, we were only able to visit Dwejra, Marsalforn, Ramla and Victoria due to lack of time, so you have to choose carefully what you really want to see. As for the audio commentaries, I can't judge as the system didn't work at our seat. We just enjoyed it with our eyes! A good experience.

I have got confised by the website, which doesn't show the rote before you pay. I paid for 2 tickets in error for Gozo ( we we were based in Silema and wanted to see Valletta & around there). As we paid for the trip the same day- it was not refundable, we never used it, just waisted money for 2 tickets. There were no way to return the tickets.

I've just returned from a stay in Malta, and I'm still amazed by everything this archipelago has to offer. Between history, beaches, culture and gastronomy, Malta is a complete destination that fulfilled all my expectations! As soon as I arrived in Valletta, I was struck by the city's unique atmosphere. Its baroque architecture, cobbled streets and breathtaking views over the Mediterranean make the capital a veritable open-air museum. Don't miss the Three Cities and Upper Barrakka Gardens for a spectacular view of the Grand Port. I also loved the excursion to Mdina, the ancient capital nicknamed "the city of silence": a magical place, steeped in history, perfect for a quiet stroll. On the seaside, the beaches and coves of Comino (especially the Blue Lagoon) and Gozo are breathtaking. Turquoise waters, swimming, snorkeling... a true paradise! Gozo in particular is worth a visit for its more rural and authentic atmosphere. Maltese cuisine was a pleasant surprise: from pastizzi and rabbit dishes to fresh seafood and local wines, my taste buds were delighted. Last but not least, I found the Maltese very welcoming and warm, always ready to help or share an anecdote about their island.

We did the bus tour with our parents. So much easier than figuring out taxis! The best part—could just hop off at Marsaxlokk for the market and grab a coffee, then hop back on. Little tip: the front seats on the upper deck get the best pics, but also the most sun!

Finding the perfect Hop-on Hop-off pass duration:

  • 1-day pass: Ideal to cover essentials at your own pace. With the 1-day, City Sightseeing offers both Malta and Gozo Hop-on Hop-off tours. In Malta, you’ll have access to two routes and 38 stops, while Gozo offers 15 stops across two scenic routes. We recommend doing one route in Malta and both Gozo routes if you can – it’ll give a great balance of both islands. Along the way, take a quick stop at a local supermarket for some traditional Maltese snacks, like Galletti (crispy crackers), Ġbejna (Maltese cheeselets), and Bigilla (a rich bean dip). Don’t forget a refreshing local drink like Kinnie (a citrusy soft drink) or a bottle of wine made with indigenous grape varieties, Gellewża (red) or Girgentina (white).
  • 2-day pass: Double the time, double the fun! If you’ve got a bit more time, the 2-day pass gives you extra flexibility. You’ll still have access to the two routes and 38 stops in Malta, but with more time to dive deeper. A must-do addition to this pass is the optional Harbor Cruise, which is for about two hours, ideally in the late afternoon, to catch the golden hour sunset over the beautiful Maltese coastline. Do a full loop of both routes so you can pick out what locations you would like to visit again the next day!

Tips to make the best of your Malta Hop-on Hop-off tour

  • When exploring Malta, dress as comfortably as possible. Wear light, breathable clothing, especially in the summer, as the island can get quite hot. However, it can be chilly in the winter and at night, so carry a light jacket with you.
  • Pastizzi is a must-try Maltese snack – a flaky, golden pastry filled with ricotta cheese and mushy peas. Don’t let your only experience of it be from a cafe. For the real deal, head to a pastizzeria early in the morning for the freshest, crispiest treats.
  • While there are taxis available for personal commutes, be cautious of white taxis – they are often priced higher for tourists.
  • Gozo's coastal views and forts make it perfect for daytime explorations, but it lacks nightlife options. Save your evenings for Malta’s vibrant night scenes, especially in areas like St. Julian’s or Valletta.
  • Do not forget to bring your sunscreen if you are opting for the Harbor Cruise. Apply it regularly at two-hour intervals, as the Maltese sun can be quite intense.
