I liked that we went to a wide variety of places. Love is the wrong word! Sure the guide was a nice person but oh boy did I get fed up with the supposed to be jokes and singing. More information would have been far more interesting. Also no talk occasionally would have been refreshing. The tout didn't start late but I had to tick something to submit review!!

It was a beautiful spring morning. Roads were quiet. Views unimpeded. Good volume on commentary. I am a hearing aid user . I was hoping for a mention of Kneecap and seeing some of their haunts. Also I wish the lamppost from Lion, Witch & Wardrobe was pointed out! It was mentioned in passing but I missed seeing it!

We had two experiences - the first was difficult for us due to the noise of the bus engine - as we were sitting outside on the commentary was drowned out by the engine noise. However, our second experience ( sitting upstairs on the near side) was EXCELLENT. RODNEY was our Tour Guide and he was amazing- great informative commentary, lovely sense of humour and concern about passenger safety.

We did the full tour of 19 stops at the top of the bus. The view was good but the noise from the bus and the other traffic meant we couldnt hear the commentary. We then sat below and went round again so we could hear the commentary. Overall it was very good and informative.

Staff fab , itour nfo fab , before we got started my husband wanted the open top experience so we booked yourselves, all set arrived , met lovely staff went up stairs , dry cool fresh day wrapped up well and husband sat on dry seat but with stitching on, it had absorbed the heavy rain the day before so all the water was squeezed out and he was drenched , soggy bottoms fir the whole 90 mins , we couldn't get off anywhere as he was not going to walk about with drenched cold jeans on . A big pity , a new weatheroroof covering on the seats is needed with no stitches, some seats are cracked open with wear and tear too . Our daughter was saved as we had rain coat in bag after she heard her dad's alarm. My coat was long and waterproof but after getting up after 90 mins I could feel the damp . Luckily our car was in a city carpark do we got changed. I'd feel for an older person who didn't have a change of clothes nearby and would be frozen for the day . Just to prevent this happening to anyone else . Tour info was great lots of interesting facts , so glad we did it but would have loved to get off at gaol and other places etc as we started early in the day to do all this but it didn't happen .

Dear Headout tours: our experience using your service was extremely disappointing. We were a party of 5 - 4 adults (including 1x 80 year old), plus one child. We took 2 small journeys on the service - to Titantic and back into town, and after that - the bus did not come back to our stop (no 7). Extremely disappointed and not acceptable. We called your support staff 3 times, each time to be placed on hold for 10 minutes at a time, with no response after that. When we finally found your ground staff at City Hall, we were advised by a blond lady that 'sometimes the bus has to take an alterative route, and there is nothing we can do about this', is fair enough in a big city, but perhaps you could have advised us of this potential at the outset, and secondly to say this with an eye roll at our reaction was not appreciated. What do they expect users of the service to do in this instance? It was 0 Degrees on Friday, we were left to stand at the side of the road for almost one hour, after which point we gave up and walked to the 1st pick up point to speak to your staff, after getting nowhere on the phone to Sean Pat. Brian/ Ryan (ground staff at City hall) was at least empathetic and advised us to relay our issue with you. Really really not acceptable, have used these tours in many major cities around the world and never had an issue. If there is a redirect - what exactly do you expect those who have paid for the service and are waiting roadside to do in this case? You have contact numbers of everyone who has booked the tour o n a certain day, there are not that many people who take the tour mid winter, and even if there are - surely you have a duty to not leave people standing at the side of the road, wasting time, freezing etc, waiting for a service that just isn't delayed in traffic, it is never going to arrive. I demand a refund of our tickets (4 adults/ 1 child), This is the very least you can do after such an experience. Please contact me to arrange this.

What is a Hop-on Hop-off tour?

A hop-on hop-off tour is a convenient and flexible way to explore a city, especially for visitors who want to visit the major attractions at their own pace, without feeling overwhelmed. These tours, usually on a bus, operate within several fixed routes, with multiple stops at popular landmarks and neighborhoods. Passengers can hop off to explore any of the stops in detail and hop back on the next bus when they are ready to continue the tour. Most of these tours also offer audio guides and live guides, providing insights into the landmark and its history.

Why choose a hop-on hop-off tour of Belfast

Belfast HOHO bus tours

Tick off all the must-sees

This tour takes you to all of Belfast’s must-see landmarks, from the Titanic Quarter, home to over 20,000 people who live, work, visit, and stay in its Maritime Mile, to the Peace Walls, allegedly built temporarily in 1920, but only increasing in size and height over the years. These tours offer 19 stops across the city, ensuring you will leave no nook or corner unexplored.

Big adventures, small price tag

A single ticket offers you unlimited access to the buses for 24 or 48 hours. That’s not all, with audio guides in multiple languages including English, Spanish, German, etc, and live commentary, you are getting an insightful experience of the city, without the hefty price tag of private guides.

Hop On Hop Off Belfast

Laid-back adventurers

You don’t want an action-packed Belfast itinerary? Well, a hop-on hop-off tour of Belfast is what you need, where you can stroll through the Titanic Museum, and grab a bite or two at the markets without feeling like you are being hurried along. History and culture enthusiasts

Curious about Belfast’s stories? The live guides and audio commentary offer fascinating facts about the city’s past, from its maritime legacy to being the birthplace of the RMS Titanic and even the inspiration behind Alice’s infamous adventures in Wonderland. There is no better way to experience a city than to connect with its history.

How to choose the best hop-on hop-off tour of Belfast:

With two great options – City Tour and City Sightseeing – it’s all about what kind of Belfast adventure you are looking for. Here’s how to pick the one that suits you best:

  1. Live guides vs. audio guides: Love chatting with a local expert? Both City Tours and City Sightseeing tours offer live English-speaking guides for a more personal experience.  However, if you prefer to listen at your own pace, audio guides are also available in six languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Mandarin.
  2. Fancy an epic day trip: City Sightseeing has an optional 9-hour, add-on trip to visit the filming locations of Game of Thrones and the UNESCO-listed national nature reserve, Giant’s Causeway. Just keep in mind, this add-on tour starts at 8.45am, so plan accordingly. However, both City Sightseeing and City Tours offer 24-hour and 48-hour passes for the regular route.
  3. Open-top vs. closed buses: For fresh air and a view of the city from the top deck, City Tour’s open-top buses are perfect (with a covered lower deck for chilly, rainy days). City Sightseeing operates fully enclosed buses – great if you prefer a cozy, weather-proof option.
  4. Traveling with a furry friend: If you’ve got a pet tagging along, both City Sightseeing and City Tour are perfectly good options – they welcome your four-legged companions onboard.

Finding the perfect hop-on hop-off pass duration:

Deciding between a 24-hour and 48-hour pass for your hop-on hop-off tour of Belfast? Here’s a quick guide to help you pick the right one for your trip:

  1. 24-hour pass: Perfect for a power-packed day:

If you are short on time or just looking to hit the highlights, the 24-hour pass is ideal. The 24-hour pass allows you to explore all the 19 stops on the Red Route, including the Woolf Shipyard, where the Titanic was built, Queen’s University, known to be the first institution to teach both Protestant and Catholic students together, owing to Ireland’s complex religious history, the iconic murals along Falls Road and Shankill Memorial Garden. You can dip your toes into Belfast’s turbulent history and its memorials that remind one of the city’s resilience. Both City Tours and City Sightseeing offer this option, making it easy to fit it into your itinerary.

  1. 48-hour pass: Great for a deeper dive

Got more time to explore? The 48-hour pass lets you slow things down and soak in the finer details. Stroll through Belfast’s oldest market, St. George’s, known for its Friday Market tradition, since 1604. If time permits, get tickets for exclusive entry into the Crumlin Road Gaol, the only remaining Victorian prison in Northern Ireland. They have several interactive displays and holograms about its prisoners and their stories.

If you opt for City Sightseeing, they also offer a 9-hour day trip to the Giant’s Causeway, which includes the filming locations of Game of Thrones, including the Dark Hedges featured in the show. This add-on tour takes the scenic Antrim Coast Road, initially built as Grand Military Way, for its strategic vantage points. Today, it is home to one of nature’s biggest wonders — the Vanishing Lake — which can fill up and empty within a span of a few days.

How to make the best of your Belfast Hop-on Hop-off tour

  1. Take a full loop: If time allows, try taking the full loop of the tour, covering all 19 stops. This will give you a complete overview of the city, its landmarks, cultures, and history, and even help you plan which stop you might want to revisit later.
  2. Invest in a few experience tickets: While you’re on the tour, consider purchasing tickets for some of the attractions on the itinerary. Visit the immersive museum in Crumlin Road Gaol or watch a live performance at the Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich.
  3. Wear comfortable clothing and footwear: You’ll be hopping on and off the bus and strolling through the city, so comfortable walking shoes are a must. Belfast’s weather is also quite unpredictable, so carry layers and a light rain jacket, just in case!
  4. Pick the best time to visit: To make the best out of your tour, start as early as possible. A little research and planning on your end will help you avoid peak crowds without rushing. Also, late afternoon and sunset lighting makes for great photos, so schedule all your nature and street visits between this time.
  5. Consider the add-on experience: If you’ve got more time on your hands, the 48-hour pass is a great option. You can even add the Game of Thrones and Giant Causeway day trip to your schedule for a full day of sightseeing.
  6. Choose the best seats for you: When it comes to seating, we recommend open-deck buses. However, if the weather is not ideal or you are traveling with infants, the closed-deck buses provide shelter and comfort, without compromising on the views.

Ticketing experience great. Personal commentary was really good as we have found previously pre recorded commentary gets out of step with the locations.

Don was an amazing tour guide from start to finish. He was extremely knowledgeable in the history of Belfast but delivered the tour in a light hearted way. It was one of the highlights of our trip. Thanks again Don!
