Used the bus for a day with my husband. Easy way to see a lot. Loved the commentary. Only downside: a bit crowded at the zoo stop.
Hop-on hop-off bus = so much easier than trying to figure out taxis. Audio guide was fun, staff were chill. Weather was perfect. Would do again!
Absolutely FAB experience! Went with my mom and sister, and we felt totally safe. Staff was super helpful (even helped us find a pharmacy near Rosebank). Commentary was interesting, especially the bits about Joburg’s gold mining history. Would totally recommend for families.
Honestly didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I did! Was worried it’d be too touristy but actually learned a ton. The Apartheid Museum stop was powerful. Staff were friendly—even gave us tips for where to eat lunch. Only downside: can’t take pics inside the museum, but that’s fair.
Loved it! Hopped on at Rosebank, did the full loop, and got off at Apartheid Museum. The staff were really friendly and even gave us a map with food recs. Audio guide was surprisingly GOOD. Would recommend.
Did this with my boyfriend last month – honestly, super convenient. The commentary was interesting, and you can plug in your own headphones (yay). Got a bit squished on the top deck in the afternoon but the views make up for it. Best stop: Constitution Hill. Only wish the buses came a bit more often. Still, good value!
Took my parents who don’t walk much—bus was PERFECT for them. Easy, safe, and staff was super nice. Apartheid Museum was the highlight. Worth every rand.
Took the bus with my wife and two teenagers. LOVED the Apartheid Museum stop, and we spent extra time there. The audio guide made the trip super interesting. Staff was friendly and helpful when we got a bit lost at Gold Reef City. Would do it again!
Decided to try this bus with my uni friends. Day started slow coz the first bus was late (10 mins, not a biggie), but after that, smooth sailing. The info on the audio guide was cool, but the best part was just chilling up top and watching the city go by. Crowds at Gold Reef City were a pain tho.
Family trip with the kids! Kids LOVED sitting on the top deck, waving at everyone. We did two stops, and the staff were so patient. Highly recommend for families.
Did this with my partner last week. Super easy to get around, but the bus was a bit late at Zoo Lake. Otherwise, clean and comfortable. Bring a hat for the top deck!
It’s decent for seeing the city, but some stops are a bit out of the way. Audio guide is okay. Worth it if you don’t wanna deal with taxis.
Did this on a rainy afternoon—sat below deck, which was still comfy. Staff were friendly, and we got a lot out of the audio guide. Good for bad weather days.
Took my mom (she’s 75!) and she managed just fine. Staff was super helpful, and the commentary was interesting. Highlight: Gold Reef City.
Took the red bus tour with my best mate. We’re both into history so the audio guide was a hit (lots of facts, not just touristy stuff). The Apartheid Museum stop is intense but important. Got snacks at Gold Reef City too. Little tip: sit on the left side for better pics.
Best way to see Joburg without a car! Took my girlfriend and we both enjoyed the relaxed pace. The commentary was actually interesting, and the top deck gives an AMAZING view. Would recommend for couples.
Did the tour with my partner. The Apartheid Museum was moving. Staff were helpful, and the buses ran on time. Would recommend!
Did the bus with my parents and sister. Loved the flexibility. Some buses were a bit late, but overall good. The Apartheid Museum was the highlight for us.
Fun way to see Joburg with friends. We did a whole loop then decided where to hop off for longer. Buses were mostly on time except for one delay near the zoo. Bring snacks – not many options at some stops.
Honestly, this bus tour is a lifesaver if ur new in Joburg like me! Took my cousin along and we both LOVED sitting up top—even tho I got a bit sunburnt (bring a hat, trust me). Audio guide was actually interesting (not boring history, more like stories). We hopped off at the Apartheid Museum (heavy stuff but sooo worth it), then just chilled at Constitution Hill for a while. Only thing, traffic near Rosebank made us wait a bit for the next bus, but no biggie. Staff was suuuper friendly and even pointed out local food spots. Def worth it for first timers!
Did the tour solo, and it was great. Felt safe, learned a TON, and didn’t have to worry about directions. Would recommend.
Did this with my dad and brother – good way to see a lot without walking too much. Bus was comfy. Wish there were more food options at stops.

If you’re a first-time traveler to Johannesburg, a Hop-on Hop-off tour is a great way to get a sense of the city’s people & culture. After you loop around your route a couple of times, you can decide which attractions you’d like to visit first and set the pace for the rest of your trip.
It is extremely easy and efficient to book and use a Hop-on Hop-off bus pass. So if you’re traveling as a large family, it would be less of a hassle to get passes for everyone than to purchase individual public transport tickets.
