Things to know before booking your Palace of Versailles tickets

  • Tickets to the Palace of Versailles are timed, meaning you must choose a specific time slot for your visit. This ticket grants you entry to the Palace within 30 minutes of your chosen slot.
  • Due to the Palace’s popularity, tickets often sell out 2-3 months in advance, so be sure to book well in advance.
  • The Versailles Estate is made up of several areas worth visiting. The Palace is the central attraction, including highlights like the Hall of Mirrors, the King and Queen’s apartments, and the Gallery of Battles. Tickets to the Palace also include access to the Gallery of Coaches, right outside the Palace gates.
  • To fully appreciate the Palace's rich history, opt for a guided tour. These tours offer valuable insights and help you navigate the vast complex, ensuring you don’t miss anything important.
  • Certain areas of the Palace, like the Royal Chapel, Royal Opera, and the King’s Private Apartments, are inaccessible to the public. However, exclusive private tours provide access to these sections while still allowing you time to explore the rest of the Palace independently afterward. With a dedicated entrance to the Palace, these tours also allow you to skip the long entry lines at the Palace.
  • The Park is free to visit daily, as are the Gardens, except on days the Musical Gardens (April-October) or the Fountain Shows (April-October) are held. On these days, entry is restricted to ticket holders, with free entry for children under six.
  • If you have already visited the Palace and just want to visit the estate, we have dedicated tickets for just that.
  • For full access to the Versailles estate —including the Palace, Gardens, and Trianon Estate—the passport ticket is your best option. It offers excellent value for money, granting you entry to all areas with just one ticket.
  • If you're visiting from Paris, consider tickets that include round-trip bus transfers. Whether you opt for a standard Palace ticket, guided tour, or passport ticket, adding transfers simplifies logistics, allowing you to focus on enjoying your visit.
  • The Palace offers free entry on the first Sunday of each month, from November to March. However, you still need to book a time slot in advance to be allowed entry. Expect larger crowds on these days.

Frequently asked questions about the Palace of Versailles tickets

What are the different types of tickets available?

There are several ticket options for the Palace of Versailles, including standard entry tickets, skip-the-line tickets, guided tour tickets, and day trips from Paris. Choose the one that best suits your itinerary.

What’s the difference between a Passport ticket and a Palace-only ticket?

The Palace-only ticket grants you timed entry to the Palace and access to the temporary exhibitions, the Gallery of Coaches, the Sculptures and Mouldings Gallery, the Royal Tennis Court, the Gardens, and the Park. In addition to the above accesses, a passport ticket grants you entry to the Estate of Trianon.

How far in advance should I book Versailles tickets?

We recommend booking your tickets at least 2 weeks in advance during peak season (April-October) and 3 days ahead in low season. Popular guided tours can sell out weeks in advance, especially during the summer.

Can I visit the Versailles Gardens for free?

Garden access is free on regular days except during Musical Fountains Shows (Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from April to October). We recommend booking the All-Access Passport if you want to visit on show days, as it includes both palace and garden access.

Do I need a separate ticket for the Musical Gardens or Fountain Show?

Yes, access to these requires separate tickets; unless it is already included in your current ticket.

Can I visit the Trianon Estate without a Palace ticket?

Yes, you can. Trianon and Marie-Antoinette Estate Skip-the-Line Tickets grant you access to the Trianon Estate only; not the Palace.

Which parts of the Palace are free for everyone?
  • The Park is and it is open daily.
  • The Gardens are also free, except on the days of Musical Fountain Shows and Musical Gardens, usually between April-October.
  • Admission to the Gallery of Coaches is free and requires no ticket. It is open daily, from 12:30–6:30pm.
If I am traveling from Paris, what's the best way to get to the Palace of Versailles?

If you’re traveling from Paris, opt for a ticket that provides round-trip bus transfers from the Eiffel Tower. It'll save you the hassle of planning transportation.

Do I need to print my Versailles Palace tickets?

No, you can show your tickets on your mobile device. After purchase, you'll receive an e-ticket by email that can be scanned directly at the Palace entrance. We recommend downloading it for offline access.

Do children need tickets for Versailles?

Children under 18 years old (EU citizens) and under 26 (EU residents) enter free with valid ID. However, you must still book a free ticket for them. For guided tours, child rates apply for ages 4-17, and children under 4 join for free.

Is photography allowed inside the Palace?

Photography is allowed for personal use; not for commercial purposes. Flash photography is prohibited to protect the artworks.

Are animals allowed inside the Palace?

Animals are prohibited in the Palace, Gardens, and Trianon Estate, but are allowed in the Park. Guide dogs are permitted throughout the entire Estate with valid proof.

What is the cancellation policy on my admission tickets?

The tickets can’t be canceled or rescheduled.

Everything was great—the punctuality, the communication. I think they really took care of every detail. Honestly, I think coming to Paris and being able to buy tickets so easily is a huge plus because there are so many people. I think the timing was perfect, and it made it much easier to see the Mona Lisa without having to deal with such huge crowds. I highly recommend it.

It’s definitely an experience you have to try at least once in your life. The weather wasn’t great, but the gardens are spectacular. My only complaint is that I didn’t receive my tickets until less than an hour before my appointment, which left me feeling a bit rushed.

Always using Headout to book the visits while traveling. The platform is quite convenient and good choices offered. This time we went to Versalle and it was amazing experience for the palace and gardens. We made booking just 4 days prior visit and tickets were available. We went on February 5th with my family and had an awesome time. Wear comfortable shoes because there is a lot of walking around the gardens or take the petite train. Specially if you want to visit Marie Antoinette playground.

I enjoyed hearing at seeing history through a French perspective. Being an American, our history lessons are so limited that we remain ignorant. Just listening to another perspective was enlightening and helped me to see the beauty of Versailles along with the tragedy of the opulence when the people of France were in need. I could see courage and passion of an amazing country.
