Why visit the Orangerie Museum?

A hidden gem for art lovers

While the Louvre and Orsay often steal the spotlight, the Orangerie Museum offers a unique experience. It's a peaceful, intimate space where you can view and connect with masterpieces of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art away from overwhelming crowds. Discover iconic works by Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Alfred Sisley, and Maurice Utrillo in a serene setting.

Witness to epic transformations

Originally built in 1852 as a simple shelter for the Tuileries Garden's orange trees, the museum's transformed from a warehouse to military housing. In 1921, it began its transformation into an art institution under the Beaux-Arts administration, with Claude Monet himself playing a key role in its evolution. Today, it stands as a beautifully restored museum, its layered past making it a special place to explore.

The heart of the museum: The Monet series

The museum's crown jewel, Claude Monet’s Water Lilies, offers an unparalleled experience. These massive murals were designed specifically for the Orangerie, and stepping into their dedicated rooms feels like entering another world. Monet dedicated over 30 years to perfecting this series, capturing the beauty of his Giverny garden.

Sanctuary for art and artist

The Orangerie’s collection goes beyond Monet. Masterpieces like Young Girls at the Piano, The Afternoon in Naples, The Groom, and Portrait of Paul Guillaume offer a glimpse into the diverse 20th-century art scene. To gaze upon these and (hopefully) be inspired by the rich textures, bold colors, and innovative techniques that defined an era, is an artist’s dream.

Things to know before booking your Orangerie Museum tickets

  • All tickets grant general admission to the museum, including access to Claude Monet’s Water Lilies in the Nymphéas Room, the museum's permanent collection, and any temporary exhibitions running during your visit.
  • It's highly recommended to book your tickets online in advance for guaranteed entry during peak season. Fast-track tickets allow you to choose a specific date and time slot, and help you avoid standing in the long ticket lines at the entrance.
  • The museum uses timed entry, so make sure you arrive at the museum 30 minutes from your booked time.
  • Interested in uncovering the stories behind the Orangerie's masterpieces? Consider a combo ticket that includes museum access and a digital audio guide in 11 languages, letting you explore the collection at your own pace.
  • Just 10 minutes apart, the Orsay features Impressionism-influenced paintings, while the Orangerie displays the culmination of these movements with masterpieces like Water Lilies in a peaceful setting. A combo ticket to both museums offers insight into the Impressionist period art.
  • For those looking to save money, the Orangerie offers free admission on the first Sunday of every month. However, you will still need to book your tickets online to reserve a time slot.

Everything was great—the punctuality, the communication. I think they really took care of every detail. Honestly, I think coming to Paris and being able to buy tickets so easily is a huge plus because there are so many people. I think the timing was perfect, and it made it much easier to see the Mona Lisa without having to deal with such huge crowds. I highly recommend it.

Headout made our visit to Musée d’Orsay truly memorable. The process was effortless – booked online in minutes, received the ticket right away, and walked straight in at 11:00 without any waiting. The collection is stunning – standing under that iconic clock with sunlight streaming in was a moment I’ll never forget. Seeing the real paintings of Monet, Van Gogh and Degas felt almost unreal. A perfect, joyful experience for me and my teenager. Thank you so much!

A wonderful museum with a high quality audio guide which permits wandering around and listen to facts about whatever item you're interested in. Logistically the entrance worked very well and the venue offers a nice atmosphere with clean facilities and a beautiful historic building.

The Musée d'Orsay is a must-see in Paris and always an absolute highlight. The tickets booked in advance with a time slot worked well. Thank you for this service!
