San FranciscoAlcatraz Tours

Alcatraz Island, a former high-security prison, is one of San Francisco’s most famous landmarks. Also known as “The Rock,” it once held notorious criminals like Al Capone and the Birdman of Alcatraz, Robert Stroud. Today, visitors can explore its eerie ruins, enjoy gorgeous views of the Bay, and learn about its fascinating past while walking through its halls in immersive tours. Choose from guided tours, combo experiences where you can club nearby attractions with your trip to Alcatraz, and even a seaplane tour where you can see the island from a bird's-eye view.

Things to know before booking your Alcatraz tour

  • Alcatraz is accessible only by ferry from Pier 33 in San Francisco.
  • Day tours offer beautiful daytime views of the Bay with the freedom to explore the attraction at your own pace, while night tours provide an eerie, after-dark adventure with exclusive ranger-led programs and a more mysterious atmosphere.
  • Choose a one-day tour to Alcatraz and nearby attractions to gain a greater understanding of the region in a shorter period of time. You can even take two-day tours for a deeper exploration spread over multiple days (overnight stay not included).
  • Some tours to further away attractions like Yosemite and Muir Woods include pickup from San Francisco.
