History of Lukacs Baths

  • Back in the 12th century, the knights of the order of Saint John, dedicated to healing the sick, set up camp in what we now know as Lukács Bath.
  • Soon after, the orders of Rhodes and Malta decided to join the party, constructing monastery baths in the vicinity. Interestingly, during the time of the Turks, the springs' energy took on a different role, being used primarily for producing gunpowder and grinding wheat.
  • Post the reoccupation of Buda, the bath switched hands to become the property of the Treasury. Fast forward to 1884, enter Fülöp Palotay, who snagged the bath from the Treasury, kickstarting a wave of transformations. A spa hotel emerged, a cutting-edge hydrotherapy department took shape, and the swimming pool underwent a remarkable facelift.
  • Word spread about the healing powers of Lukács Bath, attracting people from all corners of the globe. The Lukács Bath has definitely come a long way, blending centuries of history with modern transformations.

Lukacs Baths Architecture

Lukacs Baths Architecture
  • With their ornate Art Nouveau design, Lukacs Baths are a visual feast for architecture enthusiasts.
  • Dating back to the 19th century, the baths have undergone various renovations, resulting in a harmonious blend of old-world charm and contemporary elegance. The buildings feature decorative facades adorned with intricate stonework and delicate mosaics, which add to the baths' aesthetic appeal.
  • As you step inside, you'll be greeted by the grandeur of the interior spaces. Vaulted ceilings adorned with colorful frescoes, towering columns, and ornate chandeliers create a sense of opulence that's hard to match.
  • Even the pools, with their elegant curves and pristine blue tiles, are a sight to behold.

The views were spectacular—we didn't get cold since we stayed inside, and we still loved it. We went with the basic package without the glass of champagne, but it wasn't necessary because you can order one there if you want. I recommend downloading the app they mention so you can listen to the commentary as you go. I'd definitely do it again. I usually get seasick on boats, but I didn't this time—it went very smoothly.

Very good moment you don't really need a cabin. It is beautiful and really enjoyable. I think there is a lot of people on weekends but Wednesday was ok. Don't forget pool cap if you want to swim outside. Don't eat inside there is not a lot of choice and sometimes you have to wait a long time. In the morning there is less people. Don't forget to climb on the top because there is a fitness park and a sun terrace.
